September 1986
Sunnymead Middle School opens as part of the elementary school creating a K-8 school. Founding principal: Mr. Bob Romero. 

September 1987
Although still sharing an office with the elementary side, Sunnymead Middle School is officially split from the elementary school.

Sunnymead Middle School gets its own office in the former county building on Eucalyptus.

Sunnymead Middle School becomes a VAPA magnet.

Gear Up Grant sets up for the beginning of AVID.

The school is chosen to be a part of the PROMISE initiative.

August 2006
Sunnymead Middle becomes a “super” size school taking over the elementary side of the campus. Enrollment goes from approximately 900 students to 1300 students.

August 2007
The number of students at Sunnymead Middle continues to increase.
The California Gold Ribbon School Award is bestowed upon the school.
The Schools to Watch; Taking Center Stage award is bestowed upon the school.
October 2017
A new Principal begins at Sunnymead Middle School: Mr. Joseph Ochoa.
The Schools to Watch; Taking Center Stage award is bestowed upon the school for the second time
The school received a PBIS silver award.
The school receives a Saluting Education Superintendents Equity Champions award.
