Principal's Message

Dear Parents and guardians,

I want to welcome everyone to Sunnymead Middle School! Home of the Stallions! It is with great enthusiasm that I begin the new school year as your Principal. I have worked in education for 16 years. After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Cal State San Bernardino. While I was working on my teaching credential I became an AVID tutor and a substitute teacher. I then became a proud teacher in Moreno Valley and have had the pleasure of serving several schools in the district as both a teacher and an administrator for 14 years. I am extremely excited about the new positive changes to our school for this school year. We are continuing the Junior Scholars program and we are a STEAM pathway school where students will learn future ready learning strategies to prepare them for college.

I am a strong believer in connecting with the school community and working as a team to achieve wonderful outcomes. I value the input of our school community and will consider all opinions.  If you have any questions or concerns, I will be available. I feel that communication is the key to understanding.

The school year will be amazing. I am excited to lead all of the students into future ready career and college skills. This school year's motto is "the Kaizen Way". Meaning we are making small positive incremental changes to improve everything. Thus, we will provide all students with a wonderful equitable education experience. Our school has amazing teachers and staff who are all here to improve all students socially and academically. I know that all of our students will improve academically and socially. I believe that all students can continue to improve and will work to solve relevant real-world problems. Students will leave Sunnymead with technology skills and critical thinking abilities to prepare them for high school, college, and their careers.

I look forward to building positive relationships with the entire school community.

Sincerely,

Mr. Joseph Ochoa

Principal of SMMS
